THE LITTLE WHITE DRESS

Wearing Galliano dress, Witchery Heels with Snakecharmer shoe clips & Susan Y. necklace

Last night was the launch of Susan Y. Designs (aka my mother). It took place at Osbourne and Grace gallery at Marina Mirage and it could not have been better. Around 30 pieces of Susan Yacoub's intricately beaded leather necklaces were on display as part of her exclusive collection for Osbourne and Grace Gallery. The night was filled with lots of "Ooooooo I like that one" and "Oh my god! I must have this in my life right now" and "I need it, how much?" To say it was a success would be an understatement. I am so unbelievably proud of my Mum. She has been working in leather and the fashion industry for over 40 years so she has plenty of experience and good ol' stories to tell.

When she first started getting involved with beading necklace, I immediately requested one, naturally. So I designed a necklace that I thought I could wear during the day and at night that still encompassed the current fashion trends (aztec print and colour). The final product is what I am wearing in these photos. Isn't it just marvellous? Yes it is. I am also wearing my own design on my feets...shoe clips or as I like to call them shoe swag. But more on that topic later. Stick around and keep an eye out on Susan Y. website for updates on the collection and soon you will be able to peruse the entire collection and purchase online.

The beautiful Susan Yacoub and me

My mum is also amazing at a lot of other things, for example making stunning leather jackets as pictured above. Handbags are also part of her repertoire, but for now I think she is sticking with beaded leather jewelry.

SNAKECHARMER: MOROCCAN INSPIRED JEWELRY

More from the SNAKECHARMER collection of fashion jewelry. Inspired by the beading of Moroccan jewelry and their use of leather.

This piece is worn by my best friend in the entire world and I plan to make a lot more of these style necklaces.

For those of you on the Gold Coast who want to get your hands on some SNAKECHARMER pieces, I have a special announcement to make within the next couple of days...

STATEMENT

Personalised jewelry is probably the most rewarding purchase I've ever made and the best birthday gift! Last week I celebrated my birthday with all of my amazing friends and they all decided to chip in a get me these cute initial rings (don't be fooled by this photo, they're teeny tiny). They are now my go to rings that I can pair with anything. You can find them at the Tiny Armour etsy store.

I came across this f*** off bracelet on Theyallhateus (amazing blog for inspiration of any kind) and it got me thinking about making statements with jewellery. Jewelry can almost act as a tattoo (except you can take jewelry off whenever you feel like it). Your jewelry can say nice things, honest things or just plain mean things like this...

I first came across jewelry making a statement with sometimes vulgar words in New York at a store on Lafayette Street called In God We Trust. It's a store with so much inspiration and amazingly friendly staff. I ended up buying these teeny tiny bicycle stud earrings and wore them everyday until well...I lost them.

HEY JESS, WE SHOULD GO TO THE MET GALA TOGETHER NEXT YEAR

Oh hey Jess, just wanted to say how amazing you looked at the MET Gala last night. I'm also in love with Dior, the Baroque era and squeezing masses of jewelry onto every limb of my body. Oh and one more thing, that print on your dress looks like my bed sheets. We should be friends.

SNAKECHARMER SNEAK PEAK

The first collection of SNAKECHARMER jewelry is coming together so quickly! This is the first piece that I will be wearing the bleep out of next week during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Sydney. It will be my first time in Sydney for Australian Fashion Week and I'm very excited to see how it ranks against the Paris and New York. I will hopefully be posting like crazy next week so look out for some interesting updates.

...In the meantime check out the sneak peak of my new collection below. This design has been a thought I've had for the past 2 weeks and it has been drawn and re-drawn in my sketch book just to get the shapes and sizes aligned. Ironically, the first piece of the SNAKECHARMER collection happens to include snake skin as the main feature (I think my sub conscious is trying to tell me that I may have an unhealthy obsession with snake skin). Be on the watch for when the entire SNAKECHARMER collection drops.
